Few card games have arrived with as much noise as the official Cyberpunk Trading Card Game (TCG). The game launched on Kickstarter in March 2026 and passed its $100,000 goal in five minutes. By the end of the campaign, backers had pledged more than $28 million, which made it the most-funded game in the platform’s history.

On November 6, Welcome to Night City reaches store shelves. Ahead of the release, we added Cyberpunk TCG card recognition to Ximilar’s TCG identifier. With our API, you can scan a Cyberpunk card and get its name, set, number and rarity back in a single API response. Let’s see how it works and how you can integrate it into your website or app.

Welcome to Night City: What Is the Cyberpunk TCG?

The Cyberpunk TCG is the official trading card game of the Cyberpunk franchise, and it brings the world of Cyberpunk to the tabletop. WeirdCo produces it under licence from CD PROJEKT RED.

Players build a crew of edgerunners led by popular characters from Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, such as Jackie Welles, Lucy, Rebecca and Adam Smasher. The goal is to take on jobs and become a legend of the city.

Record-Breaking Kickstarter Launch

The crowdfunding campaign launched on March 17. Pledges passed $12 million, then $15 million, and the project became the most-funded game on the platform. By the time it closed on April 17, more than 50,000 backers had pledged over $28 million.

In September, the English Beta edition started shipping to backers and partner stores, and Beta events ran in local game stores. Pre-release events follow on October 30, a week before the retail release of Set 1: Welcome to Night City, in English and French.

How the Game System Works

Each deck is led by exactly three Legends with unique names. The main deck holds 40 to 50 cards, with no more than three copies of any card.

The Legends’ RAM (deck-building limit) decides which colours you can play and how powerful those cards can be. For example, Goro Takemura and Saburo Arasaka give 2 Green RAM each, while Yorinobu Arasaka gives 2 Red RAM. As a result, your deck can run Green cards up to 4 RAM and Red cards up to 2 RAM. These three are the Legends of the Embracing Power starter deck.

There are four card types:

  • Legends – your crew leaders. They start face-down, and once per turn you can pay one Eddie to “Call” one at random.
  • Units – the fighters that attack rivals and steal Gigs.
  • Programs – one-shot effects, including Quick Programs you can play as reactions to a rival’s attack.
  • Gear – equipment that attaches to Units or face-up Legends.

Instead of a separate mana system, you sell cards for Eddies (€$), the game’s currency. You win by collecting Gig dice for completed jobs. The total value of your Gigs is your Street Cred. Finally, if you start your turn holding seven Gigs, Night City knows your name.

Card Rarity, Variants and Booster Packs

Welcome to Night City has 140 mechanically unique cards plus 31 alternate arts, for a total of 171 cards. The 140 playable cards are identical in the Beta and Retail editions. However, their alternate artworks differ.

The rarities are:

  • Common and Uncommon – printed without foil.
  • Rare, Epic Rare and Secret Rare – every Rare or higher card is foil.
  • Iconic Rares – alternate-art versions of other cards. On the highest rarities, the card design adds Precision Vectorized Texturing (PVT).
  • Nova Rares – these never come from regular boosters. Instead, they reach collectors as backer rewards, box toppers and event promos. For instance, CD PROJEKT RED’s The Moment bundle includes Nova Rare cards of Rebecca and Adam Smasher.

Each 12-card booster holds seven Commons, three Uncommons and two Rare-or-better slots. New players can pick a starter deck as their first deck: The Heist, led by V, Jackie Welles and Viktor Vektor, or Embracing Power.

Where Players and Collectors Gather

The official Discord server has more than 67,000 members. Fans use it to chat, trade theories and talk to the developers directly. Beyond Discord, players discuss the game on r/cyberpunktcg and in the Facebook Cyberpunk TCG Community Discussion Group.

For card lookups, the official card database runs on Netdeck.gg, while fan hubs like Cyberpunk Meta collect meta decks and strategy guides. Organised play happens in local game stores, which you can find with the official store locator:

After the retail release, stores will host weekly Night City Brawl events. Meanwhile, competitive players can sign up for the Edgerunner Open Regionals – here are the tournament rules.

How Ximilar’s Card Identifier Works

Our Collectibles Recognition service uses computer vision to find collectible items in an image and identify each one. For trading cards, it:

  1. Detects every card in the photo, whether it is raw, sleeved, in a top loader or in a graded slab.
  2. Identifies the exact card by matching it against our database of trading cards.
  3. Returns structured data you can store directly in your app, inventory system or marketplace listing.

By default, the API identifies the largest card in each image. When you set analyze_all to true, it identifies multiple cards in one photo, such as a binder page.

What the TCG Identifier Returns

For each recognised card, you get:

  • The card name, full name and ID/number within the set
  • The set, set code and year of release
  • Rarity and printing (Beta and Retail cards come as separate sets)
  • Links to marketplaces such as TCGplayer and eBay
  • Alphabet detection, plus language detection for Latin-alphabet cards with lang

Optionally, also:

  • Pricing statistics (price_stats), if price search is turned on
  • Slab label reading with slab_id and slab_grade (grading company, grade and certificate number)

The retail edition of Welcome to Night City comes in English and French. Right now, Ximilar identifies English Cyberpunk cards, and we keep expanding language coverage across games.

Cyberpunk joins a rich database of card games we already support, including:

How to Identify Cyberpunk TCG Cards With Ximilar AI

One endpoint, /collectibles/v2/tcg_id, identifies cards from every TCG we support. It detects the game and the card automatically, so you don’t need to tell the API what’s in the photo.

There are several ways to test the service on your own cards. The quickest is our online demo, which has limited use and shows a structured result without the API response. For full results, use the Ximilar App or call the REST API directly. The API requires your own token, which you get when you sign up for the App. Our getting started guide walks you through the process.

Test Form in Ximilar App

In the App, upload a card photo to the collectibles test form by drag & drop or via URL.

For my test, I chose Chrome Fang card from Embracing Power. As you can see, the app returned structured data about the card, and provided links to marketplaces TCGplayer and eBay, detected tags, and pricing statistics.

My request (in cURL, Python and JavaScript) and the JSON response appeared right below the result. Let’s take a look.

Example Request

Via API, send a request to /collectibles/v2/tcg_id from your own code. This is how my cURL request looks. Don’t forget to replace __API_TOKEN__ with your token.

curl https://api.ximilar.com/collectibles/v2/tcg_id \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Authorization: Token __API_TOKEN__" \
  -d '{
    "records": [{"_url": "https://gwupeldmdknkipmnuiwt.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/card-art/official-1e80ecfb-a3f2-421d-ac71-c05547366fb6-54008eba40c623819c014ac78800b6cf3bf23b1eb7bc0c0be6556d026b94dd5b.webp"}],
    "price_stats": true
  }'

The request above has price_stats set to true. The API documentation covers this and other optional features, such as slab reading, rotation correction (rotate) and multi-card analysis (analyze_all).

Example Response

For each Cyberpunk card, the API returns the following fields: card_number, full_name, set_code, name, year, card_id, rarity, set and subcategory, plus links to marketplaces. In my case:

{
  "_id": "581dbe78-a4da-436c-bcd1-be620b0dda6f",
  "card_number": "β002",
  "full_name": "Chrome Fang Embracing Power - Beta Starter Deck #β002",
  "set_code": "SDEPB",
  "name": "Chrome Fang",
  "year": 2026,
  "card_id": "β002",
  "rarity": "Common",
  "set": "Embracing Power - Beta Starter Deck",
  "subcategory": "Cyberpunk",
  "links": {
    "tcgplayer.com": "https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/714120",
    "ebay.com": "https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Cyberpunk+Chrome+Fang+SDEPB+%23%CE%B2002&_sacat=2536"
  }
}

Who Is It For? From Cyberpunk TCG Companion Apps to Game Stores

  • Card scanner and collector apps: one photo in, the exact card out. Plug it into your companion app for Cyberpunk or TCG scanner, and your users can scan cards straight into their TCG collection.
  • Live sellers and breakers: Cardstream, our open-source card scanner for live streams, also runs on the same recognition API.
  • Marketplaces and online shops: list Beta boxes, singles and graded slabs faster, with consistent card data on TCGplayer, eBay or your own store.
  • Local game stores: process trade-ins and buylists at the counter without looking up every card by hand.
  • Grading and vaulting services: pair card identification with slab and grade reading in one call.
  • Deck builders and community tools: turn a photo of a deck into a decklist to share in a community discussion.

More TCGs and Languages Coming

CD PROJEKT RED has already announced that the second set will expand to include characters from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. In the meantime, we will keep the Cyberpunk TCG database up to date as new cards are released.

We are also adding more games and languages to our TCG identifier. If there is a game you want to see next, let us know.
